Are you an English Language Learner and would like to improve your English? Do you want to complete your High School Equivalency (GED) in English or in Spanish? Are you preparing to take the U.S. citizenship exam? Elgin Community College has classes that will help you to achieve your goals!

Elgin Community College offers classes in English as a Second Language (ESL), citizenship, and High School Equivalency (GED). These classes are for adults (16 or over) who are not in high school and who live in the state of Illinois (International students or visitors on visas are not eligible). The classes meet either in the morning or evening, usually on a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule. Students wanting to take citizenship classes (Saturday morning) must also take an English class the same semester. Fall classes being in January and are located in Elgin (am and pm), Carpentersville (pm only), and Streamwood/Hanover Park (am and pm). There are also online options that include virtual class meetings with a teacher and your classmates.

To register for classes in person, come to Elgin Community College, Building K, 410 Renner Drive, Elgin. Please bring a government-issued photo I.D. (driver's license, passport, or country I.D.) when you come in to register. Individuals without a government I.D. cannot be registered. Also, please do not bring your children to registration. Masks are required by state mandate at this time.
